Video to MP3

Listen to a recorded lecture or meeting as audio, or pull the sound from your own video into an editor. Only the audio is saved as an MP3. Files never leave your device: everything runs inside your browser, and nothing is uploaded to a server.

Files are processed only in this browser and never uploaded.

Choosing the segment

The whole video is selected by default, so pressing the button saves all of the audio. If you need only part of it, play the video and press 'Set start here' and 'Set end here', or type the times. 'Whole video' resets the selection.

Choosing the quality

MP3 quality is set by how much data is stored per second (kbps). 128 kbps is enough for speech such as lectures and meetings; for music choose 192 kbps (recommended) or 320 kbps. One minute is about 1 MB at 128 kbps and about 2.4 MB at 320 kbps. A higher setting can't make it sound better than the original.

How it works

Browsers don't include an MP3 encoder, so this tool downloads one (LAME) the first time and converts inside your browser. On a computer it usually finishes much faster than the video's length.

FAQ

It says there is no audio.

The video may have been saved without sound, like many screen recordings, or its audio format can't be read by this browser. If you can hear the video but still see this, try Chrome or Edge.

Can I extract audio from music or other people's videos?

Use it only on videos you made or have rights to. Extracting and sharing audio from other people's music or videos may infringe copyright.

The MP3 won't open on my iPhone.

iPhone saves downloaded MP3s to the Downloads folder in the Files app, where they play when tapped. To add them to the Music library, transfer them with the Music app on a computer.
